This Victorian style writing desk from South India dates back to the 1930s. Made from Burmese teak, the desk has particularly nice turned wooden drawer handles. Both drawers are fitted with new working locks (keys provided). Teak wood is renowned for unsurpassed durability and Burmese teak sourced from the forests in Myanmar (Burma) is the most sought-after variety. The properties of teak vary depending on the environmental growing conditions, and for centuries Burmese teak has been the first choice for fine furniture. The higher oil content is the key to longevity and the rich golden colour deepens with age.
