Vintage Tribal Silver Hansli Necklace
Dimensions: 18.5cm high, 15cm wide. 93 grams.
Code: METAL 8821
This is a vintage, solid silver, hansli necklace would have been worn by Rabari tribeswomen from the desert area of Kutch in the state of Gujarat, adjacent to Rajasthan. The name of this Indian form is derived from the collar bone (hansli) on which the ornament rests. Hansli neckpieces are of rigid torque-like form, usually made of solid ornamented silver. This gorgeous piece is at least fifty years old and was made from high-grade silver, probably 800 silver with 80% silver and 20% alloy. Small circles have been hammered by hand to form lovely, geometric motifs on this timeless and elegant piece. It is becoming increasingly harder to source authentic tribal pieces, this is both rare and stunning!
