Jaipur Kumkum Pot

$20.00

Dimensions: 6cm diameter, 8cm high.
Code: WOOD 3621

This delightful hand-turned and hand-painted kumkum pot was made in Jaipur, the magical pink city of Rajasthan. It comes from a tiny and very old shop in Tripolia bazaar in the walled city, where the owner, a lovely elderly gentleman, hand-makes a variety of items, including spinning tops, flutes and camel controllers using local woods and bamboo. The shop is frequented by locals and out of town villagers shopping for suppliers. These small pots are used to keep kumkum, which is a vermilion red or orange-red coloured powder, usually worn by married women along the parting of their hair and/or as a dot on their forehead.

Two more Kumkum pots similar to this are available, see WOOD 3721 and WOOD 3821.
