Bandana Vintage Kantha Quilt
Dimensions: 180cm x 116cm.
Code: CLOTH 0221
Beautiful medium weight, Kantha quilt/throw from Rajasthan. One side of this quilt is a subtle combination of a brown, purple and blue checked panel bordered by a pale green/blue checked section with red gudri hand-stitching. The reverse is a vibrant blue with decorative stripes, dotted with a few bright patches and a gold-coloured border. The quilt is in good condition and is a unique character piece that would look super draped over a sofa or placed at the foot of a bed.
Kantha is a distinctive style of domestic embroidery in India that evolved from the traditional village practice of making sure nothing went to waste. A simple running stitch, called gudri, is used to bind layers of old cotton saris to make soft warm blankets. This involves thousands of small hand-stitches and part of the charm is the variation in the stitch reflecting the mark of the artisan creating it.
This Kantha (which means ‘old cloth’) is a vintage piece that has been carefully chosen. No two are alike and this upcycled piece is reversible and will hold up well to daily use. Because it is vintage there may be small imperfections, irregularities and marks. It is 100% cotton and can be machine-washed with cold water, separate, on the delicate cycle or it can be hand washed. Line dry. Do not bleach. It can also be dry-cleaned.
