Stunning, 19th century, rare, bronze jewellery mould with the Hindu god Krishna, from Maharashtra. This die (or mould) was used to shape a piece of jewellery when the metal was struck against it. Krishna is the god of compassion, tenderness and love; and is one of the most popular and widely revered among Indian divinities. He stands to the side of the die in one of his signature postures, with one leg bent, and his hands lifted to play his flute. Across the rest of the die are beautiful scrollwork foliate and single a raised flower.
